Health and Safety

Hydram recognises the importance of occupational health and safety, especially in the field of metalwork and engineering, having obtained the OHSAS 18001 health and safety standard in 2012 and transitioning to the latest ISO 45001:2018 standard in 2018.  Strict legislation demands that organisations show clear, pro-active commitment towards the health and safety of their employees.

By maintaining the ISO standard, adhering with legislation, and conducting continual improvement activities around workforce participation, pedestrian safety, housekeeping and ergonomics, and reducing manual handling, Hydram is proud to provide a safe place of work for employees and visitors alike.

Training and Development

Hydram Sheet Metalwork takes its commitment to staff training and development very seriously.  Currently 98% of the shop floor employees have achieved NVQ Level 2 or higher.  External training courses supplement continuous in-house training; employees are encouraged to add to their skills.  Of particular importance to the business is training to reduce/remove non-value added activities.

Apprentices at Hydram

Metalworking Apprentice Training Centre

Hydram began delivering its own engineering apprenticeship programme in 2011 in its dedicated Apprentice Training Centre delivering in-house training to NVQ level 3, being recognised by one of the leading awarding bodies for manufacturing and technical qualifications, EAL.  Delivering training in-house ensures that apprentices learn skills that fully suit the sheet metalworking environment.  The fabrication company employs a full time Training Manager who oversees the Apprenticeship Programme.  Hydram also runs a graduate scheme and has taken on graduates from universities in the North East including Durham University and Newcastle University.
